Local Boy (aka Jake Hurley) is a Dublin music producer and artist drawing from a wide sphere of influences, from the off-kilter beat wizardry of Flying Lotus to the outsider sincerity of Daniel Johnston. Seeking full autonomy in his artistic vision, Jake writes, produces and engineers his music from the beginning to the end of the creative process. In doing so he hopes to create a pure expression of his energy and personality.
Jake began to post music on his Soundcloud in 2016 following a long and awkward adolescence of practice and musical trial and error. He released his debut mixtape Cartooniverse in early 2017, a hip-hop project which draws inspiration from Hurley’s second love, cartoons and television. On the record and through his live performances, Jake demonstrates his proficiency for instrumentation and integrates guitar, keyboard, bass and an ever expanding roster of sounds into his music - explored in an ongoing set of releases that has resulted in the Local Boy EP. Championed by the likes of Dan Hegarty and District Magazine, Hurley stands charmingly alone on the Irish music scene and is a founder of Burner Records alongside the likes Marcus Woods and Sick Nanley.
